What’s Coming up-Week of April 29

Miscellaneous:

  • Mark your calendars on May 7th from 6- 7 o’clock for the parent camp meeting.

  • A reminder that the safeties will be heading to the WhiteCaps game on May 20th. They need to bring money for lunch.

  • Please contact Yvonne Clark at myvictory@att.net or 616-662-1406 if you are interested in volunteering or donating to Fifth Grade Celebration.

Science:

  • We just finished up the animal adaptation/classification unit. The students loved studying about how all the cool creatures on our planet are classified and survive through adaptations.

  • We will finish out the year studying force and motion. This unit has many hands on activities that the students will enjoy.

ELA:

  • The 5th graders have been working hard collecting research and writing a persuasive essay. They are learning how to take a position on a topic and supporting their thoughts with examples and supportive data.

Math:

  • We have begun a unit about division.  In this unit students will be learning long division so they are able to divide a 3 or 4 digit number by a 1 or 2 digit number.  Please continue to work on basic multiplication facts because this will make this division unit a little easier.

Social Studies:

  • We have begun studying about some of the events that led up to the Revolutionary War.  We will continue to learn about Loyalists and Patriots and we will also be writing a speech from the point of view of a Loyalist or a Patriot.

Team Spencer Braclets

Team Spencer is trying to get the word out to Georgetown kids that they can buy wristbands. Students are selling these bracelets around school and have plenty to offer.

If you are interested:

You can buy a Spencer bracelet too for just $2.00.

Tidbits

  • We will have a science test on this Friday April 26th. A review sheet for this test will come home with the students on Wed. This will cover the classification and adaptations of animals and plants. Study hard! 🙂
  • Thank you so much for the donations to our classroom store! We have had a few families send in yummy treats for the kids to buy with their hard earned smile bucks! We are always open to accepting additional stock for our warehouse! 🙂

Tidbits

  • Next Monday, April 29th will be the last time  the students will need to hand in a reading log! I will be handing out a large amount of smile bucks to those who have taken this seriously and handed it in each week! 🙂
  • Our Walenta Warehouse (classroom store) is in desperate need of supplies! The students love to spend their hard earned smile bucks on Tuesdays and Fridays at our store. If you are out and about….it would be great if you could pick up a sweet bag of treats to share at our store! Thank you.
  • Enjoy the sunshine! 🙂

Reminder

A reminder that we have our Marco’s Pizza Party on Friday for lunch. The students will be given two pieces of pizza to eat. This is thanks to the families that order pizza from Marcos on one of our Georgetown pizza nights!  🙂 The students will need to bring their own drink or order milk from the school lunch room.

Thank you!

Tidbits

Our Marco’s pizza party will be this Friday April 19th. We will eat lunch in our room after lunch recess time. Please bring your own beverage. 🙂

********************************************************************

Cupcakes will be sold to grades 3-5 on April 19 (this Friday).

Money will be collected through Thursday of this week.  IF you sent in money last week, it has been saved as a pre-order.
This will be the LAST day that cupcakes will be sold.  An original post stated that they would be available on Fridays through May 3, but this has changed.
Thank you for your support!
