Fall Party:

This year for our Fall Party we are looking forward to having parties in our classrooms, however; this year will be different than in the past.

  • Parents and volunteers will not be able to attend.  (We will miss you!)
  • I will send out an email next Friday, October 16th, asking for snack donations for our party.  Snacks will need to be store-bought and individually packaged and respectful of allergies (no peanuts please).

Like previous years, we will be welcoming your children to wear costumes, if they wish.  One change this year is that children will be able to wear their costumes to school and wear them the whole day.  The intent behind this is to limit children gathering in the restrooms to change, and limit the number of children needing assistance from teachers and staff to get into their costumes.  We invite you to send your children in a costume that includes no weapons or gore, and easily allows your child to participate in regular school routines and procedures.  There will not be any masks other than COVID-19-related face masks allowed. There will not be time given to dress or apply makeup as in years past.

Please consider the questions below when deciding on a costume:

  • Can they take it off themselves to use the bathroom?
  • Can they fit in their seat at their desk?
  • Can they go down the slide or sit in the swings?

We ask that you save bulky, inflatable, or extravagant costumes for home use, and dress in a fun and simple costume for the school day.  Fall or pumpkin t-shirts are a great alternative as well.

We are thrilled at the opportunity to celebrate with your children and look forward to creating another fun and memorable school event for them.

  • Turkey Trot IMPORTANT Info!

  • Mask Reminder – With increased concern and awareness of COVID-19 in our district and the impact it could have on our school and classroom, we ask that you please review and reinforce proper mask-wearing with your child. I remind students throughout the day multiple times of proper mask usage. It is and remains to be our highest priority to follow guidelines to avoid having students, or myself, needing to quarantine and be away from the classroom.

Please help me and emphasize washing your hands, wearing masks properly, and being careful with others during this time. Thank you!

What’s Coming Up – Week of September 9-13, 2019

Miscellaneous:

  • Next week we will begin our first set of practice safety drills for the year.
  • The district has adopted a K-12 behavior matrix that is familiar to Georgetown.  The district model, SOAR, blends beautifully with our school mission of BE NICE, WORK HARD, LEARN WELL.  We want our kids to SOAR wherever they are at Georgetown — and many of our existing expectations have meshed well with BE SAFE, OWN IT, ACT RESPONSIBLY and BE RESPECTFUL.  This week our SOAR focus was the BUS. In coming weeks we’ll focus on the playground, lunchroom, and hallway behaviors.

Important Reminders:

Birthdays are wonderful opportunities to celebrate each child in our classroom. If a child has a summer birthday, we’ll celebrate on his or her half birthday. Some families also like to celebrate birthdays by sending in a treat for the class, while others opt not to send anything. In the interest of health and safety of all students, fifth grade teachers are asking that families do not send in food or toys as birthday treats. We will have a classroom ice cream party near the end of the school year to celebrate all of our birthdays! 🙂

Instead of bringing in a classroom treat to share, please consider sending something for the class to enjoy such as:

  • A game for the classroom
  • A classroom book (A nice touch would be to your child pick it out, sign it, and date it.)

The items listed above will still make your child feel special and they will last a lot longer than a food item.

You can find a wish list including books and other items for our classroom following this link to Amazon or you can  find a link to our wishlist on our classroom blog.
