Miscellaneous:
- Moby Max has replaced Math Facts Pro for fact fluency. Both teachers and students find this fact fluency tool much more friendly to use. Please have your child practice their facts several times a week.
- Parent-Teacher conferences will be held March 7 – 9. A conference time reminder slip has been sent home. Please contact your teacher if your conference time needs to be rescheduled.
Math: We have begun Unit 6 which deals with word problems using all the skills learned from units one through five.
Social Studies: We continue to research the events leading up to the revolutionary war. The unit 5 test will be approaching. Watch your teacher’s blog.
ELA: We are integrating our social studies content into our informational reading and writing units.
Miscellaneous:
- Our Valentine’s day celebration will be help on the afternoon of Friday, February 12. Rather than having traditional classroom parties, the fifth grade teachers have planned an activity for the entire fifth grade. Individual classes will hold Valentine exchanges earlier in the day.
- T.E.A.M. classes began a few weeks ago with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and will continue for the next three or four weeks.
- Reminder-When your son our daughter is using Math Facts Pro please make sure they are signing in to their account. Students should be using Math Facts Pro at home several times per week.
Math: We have begun Unit 5 about Division. This is usually a tough unit for students so please encourage your son/daughter to continue working hard. One way to help make this unit a bit easier is for students to know their multiplication facts really well. So keep practicing on Math Facts Pro!!
Social Studies: We are wrapping up our study of economic development and growth of the colonies and will testing soon. Watch your teacher’s blog for upcoming test dates. In our next unit we will be researching the events that lead up to the Revolutionary War.
ELA:
We are completing our historical fiction book clubs. Students will be writing their own historical fiction pieces based on the time period from their book club reading .

Social Studies: We are wrapping up our study of early colonization and will testing soon. Watch your teacher’s blog for upcoming test dates. Our next unit will focus more deeply on the economic development and growth of the colonies and slavery.
ELA:
We have started our unit on historical fiction. Students will be reading historical fiction in book clubs and then writing their own historical fiction pieces.

Social Studies: We are wrapping up our second unit in social studies that involved learning about the regions and cultures of early Native Americans and ancient African Empires and how those cultures were affected with exploration. Watch your teacher’s blog for test dates. Our next unit will focus on colonization and settlement.
ELA: We are working on our nonfiction writing and reading. We will be wrapping up these unites by our holiday break.
