Miscellaneous:
- Please make sure your child comes to school with a jacket and outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather.
- Parent teacher conferences will be held in early March. Like in the fall, our conferences will be held via Zoom. Watch for an email with a sign up link coming soon.
- STAR Testing reports will come home in a white, sealed envelope on Friday, February 19. These are sent home on behalf of the district to fulfill State of Michigan requirements. We will discuss and interpret these at our upcoming parent-teacher conferences in March.
- Quick reminder to relay the importance of having your child wear their mask appropriately while in school.

Valentine’s Day
In fifth grade, we do not have individual parties for Valentine’s Day. We will have an optional Valentine exchange. If your child chooses to participate, please have him or her bring a Valentine for each student in the class.

Can you believe that we are nearly halfway through the school year? I hope that all of you had a restful and enjoyable time with your families. I am so excited to welcome your kids back into our classroom! Here is a peek at what we’ll be working on this week:
Math:
- We will be continuing our unit involving multiplication and division of fractions.
ELA:
- Our instructional focus will switch back to reading. We’ll be examining theme in literature both as a whole class and in book clubs.
Social Studies:
- We will continue our unit on Colonization and Settlement.

- IMPORTANT THANKSGIVING BREAK UPDATE:
- Please refer to Dr. VanderJagt’s email for more details. Thanksgiving Break is now ONE FULL WEEK- NOV. 21-29.
- Light work, at-home packets will be sent Friday the 20th for work on Monday, 23rd-/Tuesday 24th.
- If your child will be home this week, please pick up a packet of work from our office on Friday, Nov. 20
- Book Fair Nov. 16-20. Our preview day is 2:30 on Tuesday, Nov 17. Our shopping day is 2:30 on Thursday, Nov 19.
The annual P.E. C.A.R.E.S food drive will continue until Nov. 18. We will be keeping track of how many items each class brings in. The class with the most items brought in by NOON on Nov. 18 will win a P.E. C.A.R.E.S t-shirt and a bowling trip to Hudsonville Lane. (If allowed this year)
This is a great opportunity for our students to care for their community, to teach our kids compassion and love for others. Thanks for sharing in this service project with us at Georgetown.

Math
- We are wrapping up Unit 2: Adding & Subtracting whole numbers & decimals. We will begin work on Unit 3: Multiplication and Division with Fractions
- We will continue to focus on mastering our multiplication and division math facts. Please practice these at home and utilize your child’s online access to MobyMax Fact Fluency homework.
ELA
- We are continuing our writing unit on writing a personal narrative.
- At home reading logs are due every Monday morning.
Social Studies
- We are continuing our unit called Three Worlds Meet which examines the interaction between Native Americans, Europeans, and Africans in North America.
P.E. CARES Food Drive
The annual P.E. C.A.R.E.S food drive will be starting on November 4. We are asking for your help by bringing in non-perishable food items for Love Inc. in Hudsonville.
Food items to consider are canned vegetables and fruits, pasta, rice, baked beans, black beans, kidney beans, peanut butter, tuna fish, etc. (please no ramen noodles, and please do not break apart packaged food)
