What’s Coming Up – Week of June 1

Miscellaneous:

  • Field day is June 2 from approximately 9:20-1:45 at the HHS football stadium. Rain date will be on June 3. Please send a waterbottle, sack lunch (if not you did not order from the food service) and put on sunscreen. Girls need to wear a pink shirt and boys need to wear an orange shirt.
  • Safety reward will be on June 3 and the reward is a secret.
  • If your son/daughter is a safety, please have them check around for a safety belt or two because we do not have enough safety belts at school for our current safeties.
  • As stated in the note sent home in January, we have experienced many changes in funding for our extracurricular activities. Because fifth grade camp serves as a culminating activity for our students, we will not have a formal fifth grade celebration. Instead, on Thursday, June 4, the teachers have planned a fun end-of-the year punch and cake social at Georgetown for our fifth graders. This activity is for students only; no volunteers are needed at this time.

Just Write

It is hard to believe that our Just Write celebration is coming up next week! This year, the fifth grade classes will be celebrating with our kindergarten buddies. On Monday, June 1 at 2:15 PM, our buddies will be visiting our classroom, and our fifth grade writers will be sharing some of their favorite pieces with their buddies. Then we will take a brief tour of the building with them to see some of the featured writing from Georgetown students. Then we will head to the kindergarden room to have our buddies share a writing with us. If you would like, you are welcome to join us as we share with our kindergarten buddies.

The Just Write assembly will be on Thursday, June 4 at 9:30 AM.

Beach Day Friday

Our third graders have selected BEACH DAY for Friday, May 29, 2015.   Attire:  Sun glasses, sandals, sun hats, beach friendly shorts, shirts. NO BATHING SUITS.  Save those for summer vacation!  🙂

FROM THE ART ROOM…

Parents, it is time to send home all the beautiful student artwork that we’ve been keeping safe at school for you!  Mrs. Brouwer and Mrs. Persch will host an ART PICK UP DAY – this includes framed artwork from the Art Show too!
WHEN: Thursday, May 28 – 8:00 AM-6:30 PM
WHERE: Mrs. Persch’s Art Room – across from the office, look for the signs!
Please stop in for your kid’s art work – any art that is not picked up will be sent home with the kids after May 28.  Hope to see you there!

Camp Movie

We had an amazing time at camp this year. We want to send another huge “Thank You!” to all of the chaperones. Camp would not be successful without all of their hard work. Below is a glimpse of some of the fun we had this year at camp.
Below is a link that takes you to a Google Site that will allow you to download the movie to your own devices if you would like to have a keepsake for your child.

Final Camp Reminders

DON’T FORGET!!!

  • Bring a sack lunch  with your child’s name and teachers name on it.
  • Your child’s name must be clearly marked on luggage, sleeping bagandpillow. Masking tape works really well for this.
  • All medication must be in its original container
  • No electronic devices.
  • Any cash brought to camp is the responsibility of the camper.

Check In/Check Out

Drop your child off between 8:45 and 9:00 at the circle drive in the front of the school. (inside if it is raining or cold)  PLEASE do not arrive earlier.  We need to allow time for k-4 grade students to arrive using the  normal drop off procedures at the circle drive.

LOOK for your child’s teacher upon arrival so they can check your child in, and mark them as in attendance.  Please do each of these steps to properly and safely check in your child before you leave.

  • Medication drop off– Any medication to be administered needs to be in its original container, clearly marked with your child’s name.  An adult will cross check to make sure all medication left is listed on the med form you sent in giving written permission to administer medication.
  • Lunch Check In– A volunteer will check for a teachers & student’s name on the lunch  and place your child’s lunch in the appropriate box.
  • Tagging Luggage– A colored tape will be placed on your child’s luggage to help identify it upon arrival at camp.
  • Luggage Drop Off– Luggage will be given to volunteers to load and take to camp.

* Plan on being back at Georgetown Elementary at 1:45 on Friday, May 22 to pick up your TIRED camper.   :)

Looking ahead

Wow! I can hardly believe we are a few short days away from 5th grade camp.  I told the kids I would attach a packing list if they wanted to start gathering things together. Camp Packing List

Also, I want to invite parents to drive up and visit their kids at Camp Pinewood and join in the fun. You are welcome to come and spend the day, or part of a day. We only ask that if you plan to join us for a meal that you bring in $7.50 to cover the cost of that meal. You may always bring your own meal if you prefer that option. :)

Look for a Reminder/Checklist to come home today with your child.

Social Studies Test

We have a Social Studies Test over the American Revolution on Tuesday, May 19.  Students filled out a study guide yesterday and should be bringing it home today along with one other sheet that they filled out in class.  Please have your son/daughter study these 2 sheets a little bit each day before the test instead of trying to cram for this test only on Monday evening.  Thanks and have a great weekend!
